Gen. 4:4-5 “And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the LORD had respect unto Abel and to his offering: But unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell.”

Nobody could approach God by his/her own works. This is the reason why God rejected the offering of Cain and accepted the offering of Abel. Cain tried to offer God the fruit of his own works. There is no way God would accept that. God is far too Holy for our good works. Abel on the other hand, approached God on the basis of a blood sacrifice. This is the ONLY right way provided by God. Abel was saying “Lord, I come as a sinner who realizes that I cannot approach You through my works, but through Your works.”

God has provided us a way to approach Him and that is ONLY through His works on the cross (Eph. 2:8-9). There is ZERO chance that a man will be saved by his own works. There is no way that somebody could enter heaven by simply offering to God his/her good works. Do not believe those who told you that you can be saved by just repenting and confessing your sins to God. That is not the way. We are saved ONLY by the works of the Lord on the cross. He is the ONLY way. When you pray for example, do not say “Lord, when You do this to me, I will do this to You” or “Lord I will give this to You so that You will bless me.” These are all approaching God through our works. Instead pray in the Spirit (Eph. 6:18, it should be His prayer) and give according to His leading (2 Cor. 9:7). Not on the leading set by your church or some people. It should be His works, not ours.
