A PURE HEART – HOW CAN WE HAVE IT?

TITHES AND THE GIFT OF GIVING

Spread the love

“I have shewed you all things, how that so labouring ye ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, IT IS MORE BLESSED TO GIVE THAN TO RECEIVE.” – Acts 20:35

“IT IS MORE BLESSED TO GIVE THAN TO RECEIVE.” This is the true and absolute saying of the Lord. That’s why we are always encourage to give.

But in giving, the Bible also told us to don’t just give just for the sake of giving. It told us also that before we give, we need to discern and decide wisely before giving. According to Apostle Paul in 2 Corinthians 9:7:

Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.”

The word “purposeth” here came from the Greek word “proaireomaiwhich means “to bring forth what’s inside one’s heart,” “to choose,” “to decide,”. Therefore, the Apostle Paul is telling us here that if you wanted to give, we must give according to what’s inside of our heart. He is telling us to don’t just give, but to use our hearts, to choose and decide wisely every time we wanted to give.

When he said “to choose and decide wisely” it means being able to decide when to give, what to give, where to give, how to give, why we should give and judging whether we should give at all or not. This is the reason why giving is a Gift of the Spirit (Rom. 12:8). Those people who can truly give are only those people who possess the Spirit of the Lord.  We should not give just for the sake of giving, the Bible is telling us to decide wisely.

So don’t believe those ministers who told you that “if you are giving don’t ask any questions, just give.” That’ foolishness. That’s not what the Bible is telling us. Remember that you are called a wise virgin. Be wise therefore. You are led by the Spirit of the Lord who resides in your heart, therefore follow His leading. Lest, you will be arming the enemy.

ARMING THE ENEMY

When I say “arming the enemy” it means giving without deciding wisely, without discerning in the Spirit, that instead of blessing the Body of Christ, you are actually blessing the enemy himself. That’s why we need to be wise if we really wanted to be a blessing and to be blessed. Do you think would you still give if you know that the person who is asking you some money will only use your money on illegal drugs?

Some believers foolishly reasoned out “Well, I know that he will use the money on illegal drugs, but I don’t care. It is not fault anymore. As long as I give, God is still obligated to bless me.

Oh foolish man! Do you think God will really bless you knowing that your money is the reason why a brother cannot overcome his addiction? In order to save that brother, God will make sure that you cannot produce any amount of money anymore so that next time, you won’t be able to give again. What will happen to you is the opposite of blessing.

That’s why if you truly want to give, discern with your heart. Let the Spirit of the Lord in you decide. This is the only way where you can bless and be blessed.

“WHERE THE SPIRIT OF THE LORD IS, THERE IS LIBERTY”

According to 2 Corinthians 3:17

Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.

This is the foremost evidence that a person or a local Church is under the Spirit of the Lord – when liberty is present. The Spirit of the Lord can work freely on each believer without the bondage and cages of human traditions, laws and church programs.

This is also the same in giving. Whenever a person or a local church is filled by the Spirit of the Lord, he/she is free to discern and decide when to give, what to give, where to give, how to give, to whom to give and most of all, HOW MUCH TO GIVE.

With this, I will now draw your attention to the church practiced (which is actually a law in local churches today) that prevents the Holy Spirit to work among the believers in performing the gift of  giving with liberty – the giving of Tithes

TITHING

I have already read many articles about tithing written by both true and false ministers. All of them are highlighting the blessings that can be receive in Tithing. They overwhelmed those articles with testimonies that there’s never a person who is not blessed by giving tithes. One will notice that those articles will always highlight the financial and material blessings that one can receive when one will give tithes. Is it as if our Lord God is always obligated and will have no choice but to give us blessings every time we have given Him our tithes. Through this, they are blinding the readers of the Biblical truth about tithing.

But what does the Word of God really say about tithing?

As I have mentioned above, this practice has long been preventing the Spirit of the Lord in performing the gift of giving with liberty among the believers. Why? Because from the word itself, it came from the Hebrew word “maasar” which means “the tenth part”. So tithing means giving the ten percent. If you are giving 1%, 5%, 50% or even 100%, you are not tithing.

Most ministers today will also told you that you are outgiving or robbing God if you are giving less than 10% even if the Spirit of the Lord is telling you to do so. They told us that we should let the Spirit of God lead us in everything we do. But if the Spirit of the Lord will lead you to give only 1%, these ministers will accuse you of outgiving God!

LAW AND GRACE

This is also the very reason why in the New Testament, the Apostles never imposed the paying of tithes to the believers. NEVER! Not even once! This is because in the Old Testament, they are under the Law while in the New Testament, the believers are under Grace.

Now in order for us to understand this better, it is important to tackle first the difference between Law and Grace before going to Tithes.

The Law given to Moses was written on tablets of stones for strict compliance. It is elaborately and clearly stated so that people will have no excuse. Disobey it and you will receive an equivalent punishment. The Law brings death (Roman 7:10) and no one is justified by the Law (Gal. 3:11, Rom. 3:20). In 2 Corinthians 3:7 and 9, Paul called the Law as the ministry of death and condemnation.

Whereas Grace is the opposite of the Law.

The Law was given through Moses, but Grace and truth came by Jesus Christ (John 1:17). The Law was written on tablets of stones, while in Grace, the Law is written into our hearts (Jer. 31:33, 2 Cor 3:3) through the indwelling of the Spirit of God in us that teaches us and led us to all truth (John 16:13). If the Law brings death, the Spirit brings life (John 6:63, 2 Cor 3:6). If the Law is a ministry of death and condemnation (2 Cor 3:7,9), the Spirit is the ministry of glory (2 Cor 3:8-9).

To summarized, in the Old Testament, Israelites are guided by the Law while in Grace, the Spiritual Israel is guided by the Spirit of God that dwells in their hearts.  This is the difference between the two.

COMPULSORY TITHING VS. FREELY GIVING

Now let’s go back to Tithing.

It is in the Law period that tithing was given as a commandment of the Lord that Israelites should observe. In fact, tithing is one of the laws given to them by God. It is compulsory for them to give tithes.

According to Numbers 18:20-32, the children of Israel should give their tithes to the Levites since Levites did not receive any land inheritance from God for them to farm. Levites should dedicate their lives in the service in the tabernacle of God. Therefore, it is compulsory for the children of Israel to give them the tenth part of the produce of their land. They are led by the Law and they give tithes as their compliance to the Law.

In Grace, we are lead by the Spirit of God, and we give not as a compliance to the Law but as a result of the Spirit leading us. So whatever and wherever the Spirit of God is leading us, we will follow. And wherever the Spirit of God is, there is liberty (2 Cor. 3:17).

That’s why if we look at 2 Corinthians 9:7 again, we read:

“Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.

The word “necessity” in that verse is from the Greek word “anagkh” which means “imposed” or “duty”. Therefore, Paul is telling us that giving comes from a desire in one’s heart according to the leading of the Holy Spirit. It is NOT a law that should be imposed and not a duty that should be compulsory to every Christian believer! That’s why tithing should not be imposed in a church. So if your Pastor is telling you that it is compulsory for you to give tithes, then that pastor is contradicting this verse of the Bible.

I hope you now see the big difference between Law and Grace. In the Law, it should and always be 10%. In Grace, it can either be 10%, 1%, 100% or even 0% depending on the leading of the Spirit of the Lord.

Another example of Law and Grace in our age is the compulsory paying of tax to our government and our giving of money to our parents. Here in the Philippines, if you are a government employee, whether you like it or not, it is compulsory for you to give 30% of your salary as tax to the government. No more, no less. If you are giving less than 30%, then they will charge you with tax evasion. And you are not actually giving it to them, that 30% can’t even reach your hand. It is already being deducted before they even give your salary.

This paying of tax is the best example of Tithing in the Law! Tithing in the Old Testament is just like this. It is compulsory to give tithes. If you will not give tithes, then there is an equivalent punishment. If you give less than 10%, then you are not following the Law.

Grace, however, is like giving to our parents. We are not under any law that told us that it is compulsory to give to our parents. But still, we give! Why? Is it because we are forced to give? Certainly not. We give because we love our parents. And when love is present, there is no need for the Law. And when we give because of love, do we measure it in percentage? Are we directed by the law in order to know how much we should give to our parents? And Grace is like this. How much you should give written in your heart.

WARNING AGAINST RETURNING TO THE LAW

The Church is not under the Law to outwardly imposed tithes as the nation of Israel was told to do. In fact there are verses of warning when believers go back under these and other aspects of the law in an attempt to win favor and righteousness with God. This is what the Galatian church tried to do in Galatians 4:9-11 and note Paul’s concern and disappointment with them:

But now, after that ye have known God, or rather are known of God, how turn ye again to the weak and beggarly elements, whereunto ye desire again to be in bondage? Ye observe days, and months, and times, and years. I am afraid of you, lest I have bestowed upon you labour in vain.

Also, Paul wrote to the Church in Colossae in Colossians 2:16-17:

“Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days: Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.”

So we are not under any legal obligation to imposed observance of tithings, sabbath days, holydays or of eating and drinking because they were shadow of the reality that is in Christ. Paul warned us not to return to these things. In fact according to Galatians 3:2-3:

“I would like to learn just one thing from you: Did you receive the Spirit by observing the law, or by believing what you heard? Are you so foolish? After beginning with the Spirit, are you now trying to attain your goal by human effort?”

BUT MY HEART IS DECEITFUL

Some may argue:

“But I cannot trust my heart. My heart is deceitful according to James 17:9. So I would rather implement the giving of tithes than trust my heart in giving.”

If you are not yet born-again, then this is really a problem. The Spirit of God is not residing in your heart and sure enough, it will deceive you. But giving the 10 percent does not solve your problem. It will not make you righteous in the sight of God. In fact your giving is in vain.

That’s why just like what I said above, only those who are born-again in the Spirit of the Lord are the ones who can truly give. The Spirit of the Lord is residing in their hearts and they are lead by Him. And they must follow His leading.

BUT ABRAHAM OFFERED TITHES BEFORE THE LAW WAS GIVEN

Some may argue again:

“But Abraham offered tithes to Melchizedek, the Priest of God, long before the law was given so what we should give should also be 10 percent.”

This refers to what happens in Genesis 14. Others use this to impose the giving of tithes. But if we will going to read that chapter, we will see that Abraham give freely the 10 percent. The Lord God did not command him to give the 10 percent. But Abraham chose to give that 10 percent. So contrary to the popular belief, it is not because God imposed to him to give 10 percent, but because Abraham freely give.

This is the reason why we should not use giving of 10 percent of Abraham to imposed the giving of tithes to the believers. Because in the first place, God did not impose it on Abraham. He gives freely. That’s why we should also give freely. And by the way, circumcision is also before the Law. Should we then impose on the believers to be circumcised because Abraham practiced circumcision?

If some of you will reason out that Abraham gives 10% because he has the revelation of the Law which will be given later to his descendants, then you are also wrong. For the Law says that the tithes should be the “produce of the land” (Num. 18:20-32). And what Abraham gives to Melchizedek is not the product of the land but the spoils of the war. And take note also: Abraham never returned to Melchizedek the following month or the following year to give him the product of his land. That’s why Abraham never followed the Law.

And if we will just examine Genesis chapter 14 carefully, we will notice that it is wrong to use the giving of Abraham’s 10 percent to Melchizedek as an example as to why today’s believers should also give tithes. Here are the things that we should look at:

Firstly in that story, Sodom was ransacked by the Persian King taking all the goods in that city including Lot and his wife. When Abraham knows about it, he gathers an army of 300 men and they go at night and rescued Lot and all his people. Abraham obtained a great victory. He rescued Lot, the people and recovered the good that was taken from the city of Sodom.

After his victory, the first to meet Abraham was the King of Sodom, offering Abraham all the goods from Sodom. We must take note that the city of Sodom in the Bible symbolizes sin, worldliness, wickedness and wrong living. And the King of Sodom here represents Satan. So the king of Sodom here is a picture of Satan offering Abraham, the servant of God, to take some of the credit or take something of the world. He is telling Abraham:

Look, take the spoil, you deserve it, take some of the goods, take all I have to offer you, you just take it, you deserve the credit! Just give me the people back that you rescued.

And this is the reason why Abraham would not lay his hand from anything that belongs to the king of Sodom. He did not take anything.  Do you say that we should follow this? Are you telling us not to take anything also for us?

Second, Abraham only gave the spoils of the war as tithes. He did not give the products of his land nor the fruits of his labor. Never did Abraham give to Melchizedek any fruit of his labor. Those who tell us that we should follow the example of Abraham, are you telling us to do this also?

Now, do you see why Genesis Chapter 14 should not be used as an example to the giving tithes? If you used this as an example in giving tithes, are you telling the believers to do the same as Abraham did? To only give 10 percent from the spoils of the war and not from the products of their land nor the fruits of their labor? And are you telling us to give 10 percent of our income to the Lord and should not get the 90 percent of it just like what Abraham did?

You see how erroneous are the ministers who are using this as an example to give tithes? They don’t actually know the symbolism of what happened there.

Same thing with Jacob when he gave his tithes to the Lord in Genesis 28. Jacob never followed the law.

Some of you may again reason out: “But we should follow their example because they have given only 10%.” Then you should ask why the Apostle Paul and other Apostles are giving more than 10% of what they have (2 Cor. 12:15). Why are they not following Abraham and Jacob? And why do they tell us to follow their examples (2 Thes. 3:9)?

If you really wanted to follow what the Scripture says about tithing, then you should correctly follow it. And let’s see who can correctly follow these.

TITHING ACCORDING TO THE LAW

To those ministers and people who insist that believers should pay tithes, then you should follow exactly what the Scripture says about tithing. If you won’t follow these or deviate anything from these, then you are not tithing at all. You are just deceiving yourselves and the believers.

Here’s what written on the Bible on how to give tithes. Let’s see who can follow these:

According to Leviticus 27:30, if you give tithes, it should be the products of the land “whether grain from the soil or fruit from the trees“. IT IS NOT MONETARY. That’s why we read in Matthew 23:23 that even though the Jews during the time of our Lord Jesus have money, they still pay tithes using “mint and anise and cummin” because that is what the Law says.

Now, you insisted to pay for tithes, then follow what’s written on the Scripture about the correct way of tithing. Give the 10% products of your land, not monetarily. Give it to the Levites. Unless you do this, you are not tithing. You are just deceiving yourselves that you are a tithe payer.

Hard to follow right? That’s the danger of going back to the Law. And the Lord hates those people who wanted to be like Jews but are not Jews (Rev. 3:9). They want to keep the Law when the Law was only given to the Jews, not to them.

SEED FAITH OFFERING

Another unbiblical practice promoted by prosperity Gospel ministers is what they call the Seed Faith Offering. Unfortunately, this is also being practiced by some Endtime Message Churches.

According to them, a seed faith offering is a money given in faith that God will multiply it and return to the giver. The more money you give, the more faith you have, the more financial blessings you get in return. Prosperity Pastors would usually encourage the believers to give this money offering at the beginning of the year promising the believers that they will be blessed with financial blessings all year round.

This offering will of course, go to the Pastors. This is also the reason why these Pastors are having new cars and new gadgets every start of the year.

If this teaching is true, then the Apostles of the Lord should have been rich men since they give their everything to the Lord. According to 2 Corinthians 12:15, the Apostle Paul will spend everything to the believers:

“And I will very gladly spend and be spent for you; though the more abundantly I love you, the less I be loved.”

Based on the doctrine of seed faith offerings, Paul should have been a rich man. But why are the Apostles financially and materially poor? According to 1 Corinthians 4:11-12:

“Even unto this present hour we both hunger, and thirst, and are naked, and are buffeted, and have no certain dwelling place; And labour, working with our own hands: being reviled, we bless; being persecuted, we suffer it:”

This seed faith teaching is nothing but false teaching that takes advantage of the desperate and hurting believers. Peter warned the church about such chicanery: “Through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you” (2 Peter 2:3).

Beware then of these false preachers. Do not be deceived by this practice. If you are a person who wanted material and financial blessings more than the Spiritual ones, then you are the one prone to this false teaching.

TITHES SHOULD ONLY GO TO THE PASTORS

Another unfounded and unbiblical teaching is the teachings of most of today’s ministers that tithes should only go to the Pastor. For them, if the believers in a local church are giving their tithes to other people other than the pastor in that church, then that church is without order.

If you will ask these ministers as to why we should only give our tithes to the Pastor, these ministers will tell you:

“It’s because we are like the Priests in the temple of God in the old testament. And only the Priests have the rights for the tithes in the Old Testament.

These foolish ministers are returning us back to the Law and wanted us to obey the Law when in fact, if we would really obey the Law, the Law says that the people should only give tithes to the Levites. And these ministers are telling us that they are like the Priest in the temple when all of them are not even from the tribe of Levi! They are not even Jews! The more that we should not give our tithes to them.

Then they will reason out: “But we are the Priests in the Body of Christ today.” If you are the Priests, so is the whole members of the Body of Christ! According to 1 Peter 2:9:

“But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light”

Know this: If you are a member of the Body of Christ, then you have a function. You are also a minister. For every member of the body has a function (1 Cor. 12:12-27). And every member of the Body should partake on every nutrient given to the body. The hands cannot say to the feet: “All the tithes should only be given to me, for I am the only one who work for the body.” The feet cannot also say to the hands that all the tithes should only belong to them. All members of the Body have the right to the tithes.

You may asked: “To whom should we give our tithes then?”

Here’s the answer, let’s go back to Acts 20:35, our very first verse:

“I have shewed you all things, how that so labouring YE OUGHT TO SUPPORT THE WEAK, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive.”

Is there a member of the Body who is weak? Support them then! If a member of the Body has no money to buy food, give him/her the tithes! If you know a sister or a brother who is walking his way to the church because he/she has no money for bus fare, then give him/her your tithes!

Know you not that if you look at your physical body, it functions like this also? If a member of your body is injured or sick, do not the members of the body give all their support to that injured part? Do we not even take medicines or vitamins in order for that part to heal fast? Do we not even protect that weak part with bandages so that it won’t hurt further? It would be foolish for the body if it will only send all the nutrients to one part and ignore the injured one. Remember, when one part of the body is suffering, the whole body suffers.

Now, this teaching that the tithes should only go to the Pastor is the one preventing the believers from supporting those other believers who are in need. Take for example this scenario:

“One time, sister B is going to church. On her way, she meets sister P who is also attending the same church with sister B. Sister P approached sister B asking her if she could borrow some money from her to buy food for her children since her salary was not yet given. The Spirit of the Lord in sister B’s heart is telling her to lend sister P some money. But then sister B remembers that the money in her purse is her tithes for the church. She also remembers that if they don’t give the exact amount of tithes to the church, their Pastor told them that they are robbing God and therefore, God will not bless them. So sister B told sister P that she can’t lend her some money because it’s her tithes to their church. And so sister P did not go to church that day.”

Have you seen the hypocrisy on this teaching that tithes should only go to the Pastor? It prevents us from giving to other parts of the body which are also the Church. Look what the Apostle James has to say about this in James 2:15-17:

“If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food, And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit? Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.”

PASTORS SHOULD GET ALL THE TITHES BECAUSE THEY HAVE NO SOURCE OF INCOME

Among all their alibis, this is the most ridiculous.

I have met a minister who openly declares that he is against ministers who have a job other than working in the ministry. He considered these ministers as “Part Time” ministers and he considers himself and those with no other job as the “full time” ones. Why he is against them? It’s because he wanted all ministers to just concentrate on the ministry and to get their daily needs in the tithes and offering of the church as their source of income.

This is also the reason why here in the Philippines, most of the Endtime Message ministers here have no jobs and are just relying on the tithes and offering of the believers to sustain their family needs. Actually, it would be okay if they have no jobs other than serving in the ministry as long as they have other sources of income and are not relying their family needs to the tithes and offering of the believers.

Base on this belief, these ministers are telling us that they are against Paul and other Apostles of the Lord because these Apostles are not relying on tithes and offerings. They have jobs on where they get their daily source of income (1 Cor. 4:11-12). According to Acts 18:1-3, Paul was a tentmaker!

If those ministers are against those with jobs, Paul is also against them who are just relying their needs to the tithes and offering. According to Apostle Paul in 2 Thessalonians 3:6-15

Now we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye withdraw yourselves from every BROTHER THAT WALKETH DISORDERLY, and not after the tradition which he received of us.

For yourselves know how ye ought to follow us: for we behaved not ourselves disorderly among you;

Neither did we eat any man’s bread for nought; but wrought with labour and travail night and day, that we might not be chargeable to any of you:

Not because we have not power, but to make ourselves an ENSAMPLE UNTO YOU TO FOLLOW US.

For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat.

For we hear that there are some which walk among you disorderly, working not at all, but are busybodies.

Now them that are such we command and exhort by our Lord Jesus Christ, THAT IN QUIETNESS THEY WORK, AND EAT THEIR OWN BREAD.

But ye, brethren, be not weary in well doing.

And if any man obey not our word by this epistle, note that man, and have no company with him, that he may be ashamed.

Yet count him not as an enemy, but admonish him as a brother.”

I wonder if those ministers have read the verses above? Or did they just ignored those so that they can teach that tithes should only go to them? Paul called these kinds of ministers as the one who walks disorderly and not according to the example they have shown. These ministers are eating not their own bread and are just busybodies.

Paul advises us to work and eat our own bread. Ministers should not rely on the tithes and offering of the believers. They should seek a source of income if they want to sustain their family needs.

“WHEN I PREACH THE GOSPEL, I MAY MAKE THE GOSPEL OF CHRIST WITHOUT CHARGE”

One of the favorite verses of these ministers who teach that they should get their income from the ministry are these verses from 1 Corinthians 9:13-14:

“Do ye not know that they which minister about holy things live of the things of the temple? and they which wait at the altar are partakers with the altar? Even so hath the Lord ordained that they which preach the gospel should live of the gospel.”

They often quote these verses to justify their false teaching.

Indeed, ministers, just like us, are also members of the Body of Christ. That’s why the Apostle Paul is telling us here that they have also the rights in the “things of the temple” which is in our case, the monetary offering or any material things in the local church. And this is true. Ministers can also partake in those brought by the Church. But it doesn’t mean that all of it should only go to them. They are not the only ones who are members of the Body of Christ.

Here is their most favorite part: “they which preach the gospel should live of the gospel.” They used this phrase to back up their false teaching.  They would just stop in this verse because the next verse will totally destroy their teachings. Remember that these were written by Paul, the same apostle who told us that ministers should not rely their daily needs on other believers but must work their own bread.

Here is the continuation of the rest of the passage:

1 Corinthians 9:15-19

“BUT I HAVE USED NONE OF THESE THINGS: neither have I written these things, that it should be so done unto me: for it were better for me to die, than that any man should make my glorying void.

For though I preach the gospel, I have nothing to glory of: for necessity is laid upon me; yea, woe is unto me, if I preach not the gospel!

For if I do this thing willingly, I have a reward: but if against my will, a dispensation of the gospel is committed unto me.

What is my reward then? Verily that, when I preach the gospel, I may make the gospel of Christ without charge, that I abuse not my power in the gospel.

For though I be free from all men, yet have I made myself servant unto all, THAT I MIGHT GAIN THE MORE.”

So did the Apostle Paul made the Gospel his milking cow? Did he exercise his rights to the tithes?  He said: BUT I HAVE USED NONE OF THESE THINGS: neither have I written these things that it should be so done unto me.” Why did the Apostle Paul did not exercise his rights from claiming the things of the altar?  It is because:

“For if I do this thing willingly, I have a reward.”

“I made myself servant unto all, THAT I MIGHT GAIN THE MORE.”

The Apostle Paul is not claiming anything from the altar for he knew that if he do those things willingly without charge, he has a reward! He will gain more! And what kind of reward he is aiming at? It is no other than the spiritual reward! The treasures in heaven (Matt. 19:21). By this, he will gain more!

Should not all the ministers today ought to follow the examples of Paul? We should all aim for heavenly rewards and not the earthly ones. If you take the tithes, then that will already be your reward. It would be foolish of you if you choose those materials (temporal) rewards than spiritual (lasting) rewards. If there’s a member of the Body who is weak, then give him/her the tithes and great will be your reward in heaven.

CONCLUSION

It is more blessed to give than to receive that’s why we should give. But don’t just give for the sake of giving. Paul told us that in giving, let the Spirit of God lead us. If the Spirit leads you to give 10% then give 10%. If He leads you to give 50% then give 50%. If He leads you to give only 1% then give only 1%. That’s Grace. Do not return to the Law anymore.

May the Lord will guide us into all truth is my prayer.
