The Fear of the Lord

Proverbs 9:10 “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.”

What is the fear of the Lord? Is it living every moment of our lives in a continual state of fear because we do not know what God is going to do to us? Er, no! The fear of the Lord is reverence for God, leading to honoring, trusting and putting Him first in each situation. It is the resolve to do the will of God in our lives no matter what the situation is because we put Him above everything.

Look at how our Lord Jesus lived his life on earth. The prophecies said that “the Spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord would rest upon him and he would delight in the fear of the Lord” (Isa 11:3). How was that lived out? Was our Lord Jesus scared of His Father? No. He gave all glory to the Father, put all situations in His Father’s hands and only said and did what He heard and saw from His Father! Are you paralyzed by the fear of man? The fear of the Lord will led us in doing the will of God!
