Ruth 3:12 “Yes, it is true that I am your kinsman-redeemer, but there is a redeemer nearer than I.”
The Book of Ruth is not only about a nice romantic story, but it is actually a legal document regarding the Law of the Go’el (Kinsman Redeemer). Under Torah Law, if a man died poor and in debt, a family member (Kinsman Redeemer) could redeem his land and bride if they met the three requirements:
1. The Redeemer must be a blood relative (Kinsman).
2. The Redeemer must have the capacity to pay the debt.
3. The Redeemer must be willing to pay it.
Humanity was pawned to sin when Adam and Eve choose the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil to indwelt them than the Tree of Life. Who could save us? Angels couldn’t, they are not our blood relative. God in the Spirit form could not save us because blood is needed as payment to redeem us. Without the shedding of blood, there can be no forgiveness of sin (Hebrews 9:22). But then there was our Lord Jesus Christ – God manifested in flesh – He satisfies all the three:
1. God (The Lord Jesus) became Human born through a woman to satisfy requirement 1 (He became our Kinsman).
2. The Lord Jesus lived a sinless life to satisfy requirement 2 (He had the capacity to pay the debt).
3. The Lord Jesus went to the Cross to satisfy requirement 3 (He was willing).
