There are times in the fourth watch,
I’m sitteth all alone.
In the stillness of the morn,
In the breaking of the dawn.
When all are still sleeping,
I meditate on Thee.
I look’d back as a young boy,
As vision came to me.
I standeth in our old farm,
In bygone days displayed.
I stood by the harvest gate,
Where golden fields were laid.
Gazing wistfully,
Into the fading twilight’s gleam.
I breathed the summer’s cool air,
As if within a dream.
Heavy be the fragrance,
Of freshly harvested rice.
Each breath a hymn of nature,
Gold into mine eyes.
Slowly the day’s clamor,
Gave way to evening’s song.
As cattle lowered their knees,
And the birds nestled along.
Then as the final ray of day,
Restraint its light and cease.
Silence then surrounds me,
Impressive in its peace.
No noise, no stir, no stress,
Disturbed that hallowed whole.
And in that voiceless calm of night,
God spake into mine soul.
The mightiest message then came,
Not wrought of praise or words.
I heard not in the uttered speech,
The presence of our Lord.
In trials and in quiet moments,
In personal reflection rife.
The loving presence of our Lord,
Is seen into my life.
But then the question came,
My Lord, how do I love Thee?
When distractions be there lay,
And steal my joy away?
I love Thee, Lord, in silence,
During the morning dawn.
As dew erase distractions,
And all Thy grace is shown.
I love Thee, Lord, in trials,
When Thou makest Thyself known.
In tempests wild and sorrow,
Thy love is clearly shown.
I love Thee, Lord, every day,
As I walk the lonely road.
When I converse myself to Thee,
As we go along and strode.
I love Thee in the solitude,
In quiet prayer and reflection.
When I in Thee and Thou in me,
When we’re in deep conversation.
I love Thee, Lord, through Thy Word,
A lamp unto my feet.
O fountain of Life, O source of truth,
That maketh my heart complete.
I love it, Lord, when Thou reveal’st to me,
Thy plans, Thy joy so free.
In gratitude and thankfulness,
Thou fillest my heart with glee.
I love Thee, Lord, in challenging times,
When trials darkened my way.
For in Thy holy presence,
Thy Light is here to stay.
How do I love Thee Lord?
I think of countless ways.
In every whisper, in each moment,
In all my remaining days.
How do I love Thee Lord?
In every breath, in every tone.
For Thy endless love for me,
My soul hath always known.
