Psa. 16:1 “Preserve me, O God, for I take refuge in You.”
I have written many daily devotionals about how to be encouraged in the Lord when we are low, depressed, and stressed and what to do or what to pray when we are experiencing problems or anxiety. But it is a different matter if you are the one who is actually experiencing them. In my case, because there are so many, I often forget all of them when facing the circumstances myself. But there is one thing that I do or will never forget every time I face problems myself. It is to say “Help me Lord.”
In the verse above, the word translated ‘Preserve’ in the Hebrew has the thought of ‘guard, protect, keep, save’. Quite a few versions translate it ‘keep me’ and the Hebrew word is translated as ‘keep’ in close to three hundred other passages. How important is this little prayer to ‘keep me’? Very! Even our Lord Jesus, living as a man wholly dependent upon His Father, asked to be kept. When you don’t know what to pray, pray “Lord, keep me.”
