The Nicolaitanes

Rev. 2:6 “But this thou hast, that thou hatest the deeds of the Nicolaitans, which I also hate.”

If there is something that our Lord Jesus really hates, it is the Nicolaitans. And He hates it until today. So who are the Nicolaitans? They are the people or group of people who wanted to have authority over the believers, just like Satan, their father. They disguise themselves as ministers of the Lord. You can often see them as pastors, bishops or some high-ranking position in the church.

The word “Nicolaitans” came from the two words “Nikao” which means “to conquer” and from the word “Laity” which means “congregation”. The aim of these people is to conquer the congregation of the Lord so that they can have authority over the Church of God. The first step they do is to separate the ministers from common believers (Laity) by making distinctions between them. They bestowed impressive titles to the ministers to separate them and to lift them up from the common believers. Titles like Senior Pastor, Associate Pastor, Chief Apostle, Major prophet, are all hierarchies that are unbiblical and are invented by them. They believe that ministers are not equal to the common believers because they are the ones “leading” the local churches thus, conquering the congregation. If this kind of spirit in your church, sure enough, the Spirit of God cannot totally work in you.
