What is Eternal Life?

1 John 1:2 “The life appeared; we have seen it and testify to it, and we proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and has appeared to us.”

Most of us think that Eternal Life is continuing to live after death or living forever after death. But it is not. No one ceases to exist when they die. Even the wicked spirits that goes to hell continues to exist. And they suffer there. Some may say “Well then, Eternal Life must be being saved from hell and going to heaven.” This is also far from the Truth.

So what is Eternal Life? Per our verse above, Eternal Life is not extending our Life or living forever. It is only one of its attributes. Per 1 John 1:2, It appeared to them, they have seen It and they have proclaimed It. Therefore, Eternal Life is actually a PERSON. It is no other than our Lord Jesus Christ (John 14:6, 11:25). Anyone who is indwelt by our Lord Jesus has Eternal Life. This is plainly written in 1 John 5:12:

“He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.”

If you don’t have the Lord Jesus, then you don’t have Eternal Life.
