Rev 3:17 “Because you say, “I am rich, and have become wealthy, and have need of nothing,” and you do not know that you are wretched and miserable and poor and blind and naked.”
Here is the Church where we are given a description of how they saw themselves… and boy, the Laodicean Church were impressed, very impressed… with themselves! Here is a modernized description of the verse above:
“We’ve got everything that we need. We’ve got the buildings. We’ve got the church equipment. We’ve got the tithes. We’ve got the number of members. We’ve got unity. We’ve got the harmony. We’ve got the popularity. We are contented around here. We literally got everything and really don’t need of anything.”
This Church had a very positive self-image you could say. But Lord Jesus’ assessment was that they were poor, naked and blind. They don’t possess the most important of all! They were judging themselves by what they saw as important, but not as what the Lord Jesus saw as important. This makes the Lord’s stomach sick and that’s why He will puke them out of His mouth (Rev. 3:16). I hope we will get out of this status of the Church today.
