Exo. 12:12 “On that same night I will pass through Egypt and strike down every firstborn–both men and animals–and I will bring judgment on all the gods of Egypt. I am the LORD.”
The Feast of the Passover is often called by the Jews as the “Feast of Freedom.” It is because during the Passover (through the death of every firstborn male child in Egypt), Pharaoh finally let Israel go. Each year, between the 10th and 14th of Nisan, this feast was celebrated in Israel (which is Holy Week here in the Philippines).
It is interesting to see that this Jewish feast is also a picture of the believers’ salvation. The slavery of the Israelites in Egypt pictures our slavery to sin that imprisons every one of us born in this world (John 8:34). Just as Pharaoh would not let go of his slaves, so Satan will do all he can to hold those who haven’t yet seen the truth that makes us free (2 Cor 4:4). But there is hope! Just as God provided a way of escape for the Israelites through the blood of the “Passover Lamb” so there is salvation today in the one who is the true Lamb of God – Jesus Christ. He is our Passover Lamb who makes us free from the bondage of sin. Our Lord Jesus is our true Passover – the lamb of God Who takes away the sins of the world! He is our true freedom!
