2 Kings 5:1 Now Naaman was commander of the army of the king of Aram. He was a great man in the sight of his master and highly regarded, because through him the LORD had given victory to Aram. He was a valiant soldier, but he had leprosy.
Here was a great man, Naaman. He got wealth, power, honor… he got everything! In short, Naaman was a winner! Well, apart from one “but” that the scripture reveals…”but he had leprosy.”
Actually, there are many Naamans today. You might know one. They are the ones who have wonderful homes, wonderful jobs, wonderful families, wonderful incomes and yet, there is this BUT… but they are empty inside. You know, without the Lord, all wealth, power and respect mean nothing at all. They are all meaningless. Without the Lord, you will not be complete. There is a void inside all of us that only God can fill in. All of us have this “but” that only the Lord can cure.
And the biggest “BUT” in scripture (excuse my language!) which relates to us all, is in Matt 16:26 – “And how do you benefit if you gain the whole world BUT lose your own soul?”
