A Very Special Vessel

Jer. 18:1-2 “The word which came to Jeremiah from the LORD, saying, Arise, and go down to the potter’s house, and there I will cause thee to hear my words.”

Aside from the pressure from the hand of the Potter, another important factor in making a vessel made of clay is the pacing of the turning of the wheel. The pace of the wheel is indicated by the way the Lord arranges your circumstances in a pace that enables Him to form a shapeless piece of clay into a vessel of His choice. And we know that all things work together for good to those that love God and are called according to His purpose (Rom. 8:28). When the speed is fast in the wheel of your life, I believe it is because the Lord wanted to make you a very special kind of vessel.

Think about Joseph and the turn of the wheel in his life. The turn of events in his life was much like a roller coaster ride. First, he was most loved in a sheltered home then the wheel turns and he was on a pit and then the wheel turns again and he was sold as a slave and the wheel turns again. He was on Potiphar’s house with its luxury and temptation and the wheel turns. He found himself on a prison cell – the wheel turns again. He was on the Palace and ultimately his elevation to second in the land with Pharaoh. Oh, how the wheel turned in Joseph’s life! Yet, not one inch of it did move without the hand of the Master Potter being on the clay. It’s because God was making a special vessel! Indeed, special vessels will have great stories on this earth!
