1 Cor. 4:7 “For who maketh thee to differ from another? And what hast thou that thou didst not receive? Now if thou didst receive it, why dost thou glory, as if thou hadst not received it?”
While it is good to give credit where the credit is due, Paul made it clear that all glories should be given to God. Some people today make it sound like we should get the glory because we and God are one and as God works in us, those victories we achieved are our victories. They forgot that all of it came from the Lord! And that we are nothing without the Lord.
Paul said that we are “saved by grace through faith”, and then adds that even that faith is a gift of God! (Eph 2:8). It has nothing to do with us at all. To the Corinthians, some of whom were becoming arrogant, Paul wrote “what do you have that you did not receive? And if you did receive it, why do you boast as if you had not received it?” While we may not understand some of the mysteries surrounding the grace and election of God, we still know that the only thing we can boast in is the cross (Gal 6:12).
