2 Cor. 5:14 “For the love of Christ controls and urges and impels us, because we are of the opinion and conviction that [if] One died for all, then all died.”
Some who don’t understand grace often get worried that speaking too much about the love of Christ and freedom will give too much liberty leading to sin. What they miss is that that same love that saves and gives freedom, also controls, constrains and compels the believer. It works mightily in their heart. That is what the word of God says and has been my experience. From the Amplified Bible:
2 Cor. 5:14 “For the love of Christ controls and urges and impels us, because we are of the opinion and conviction that [if] One died for all, then all died.”
It was actually the love of Jesus that caused an amazed Peter to say ‘depart from me for I am a sinful man Lord’ (Luke 5:8). It was the love of Jesus that a rich chief tax collector to want to give away his riches (Luke 19:8) and caused a harlot to pour out and anoint His feet with a costly jar of perfume (Luke 7:36-38). It was a love that caused many to leave all they had and follow Him. And it still has the same affect today!
