Exo. 3:14 “God said to Moses, ‘I AM WHO I AM.’ This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘I AM has sent me to you.”
The words “I AM” here is a translation of the word “YHWH” (spelled as Yod-Hey-Vav-Hey) which is God’s personal name.
Hebrew is a language that started as pictographs (images representing concepts). If you look at the Paleo-Hebrew meanings of the letters in God’s name, it paints a picture:
Yod: Represents a Hand.
Hey: Represents a Window or “Behold/Look.”
Vav: Represents a Nail or Peg.
Hey: Represents “Behold/Look.”
When read as a sentence, the name of God (YHWH) essentially implies:
“Behold the Hand, Behold the Nail.”
This is actually a hidden foreshadowing that the ultimate revelation of who God is can be found in the nail-pierced Messiah. This reminds us that God’s power is not only seen in creation, but in sacrifice. That He is not only a lion, but a sacrificial lamb. His authority is not only shown in command, but in surrender.
His nature is not only in Kingship but in servanthood.
