John 15:4 “Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself unless it abides in the vine, so neither can you unless you abide in Me.”
Here’s a very important commandment that our Lord Jesus wanted to point to us. We need to abide in Him because we can only be fruitful unless we abide in Him. Without Him, we can bear no fruit. Our Lord is always trying to teach us this.
Can you remember Israel’s first battle after leaving Egypt? It was against Amalek. While Moses lifted his hands up the sons of Israel prevailed. When they dropped, Amalek prevailed. The first battle in Promised Land was Jericho where they followed the Lord precisely. But the second battle was against the much smaller Ai. They thought this would be easy. “Do not let all the people go up, but let about two or three thousand men go up and attack Ai. Do not weary all the people there, for the people of Ai are few” (Josh 7:3). In other words “this is easy-peezy-lemon-squeezy.” They didn’t consult the Lord or depend upon him. We’ve got this they thought. They were defeated and driven back by the few at Ai.
