Eph. 1:13-14 “And you also were included in Christ when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation. Having believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession–to the praise of his glory.”
A Deposit is the money that is put forth as a down payment and pledge on a piece of property. It means you want them to hold the property for you. It also means that you promise there is more money to follow. The Holy Spirit is our deposit money. He has been given as a pledge and token that there is more to follow in the way of spiritual blessings. We have already seen that we have an inheritance—there is more to follow. The Holy Spirit is that deposit, that guarantee.
In Revelation 22:1, there is a river pictured coming from the throne of God. But this is no ordinary river for the water it contains is spiritual life! A never-ending supply of all that the Holy Spirit is coming directly from God’s throne! But it starts when a believer receives the Holy Spirit at salvation who is to be a ‘deposit’. It is a down payment, sealing those that are God’s and guaranteeing their full coming inheritance. The full payment is still to come!
