Mat. 18:12 “How think ye? if a man have an hundred sheep, and one of them be gone astray, doth he not leave the ninety and nine, and goeth into the mountains, and seeketh that which is gone astray?”
The Lord will always pursue the lost. This is what the parable of the lost sheep is telling us in the verse above. He will always pursue his lost sheep no matter where they run from Him. From the Garden of Eden, God’s love always pursued us and He continues to pursue us today.
One of my favorite poem, The Hound of Heaven, by sir Francis Thomson in 1890, describe this unwavering pursuit of our Lord to us. the opening lines says:
“I fled Him, down the nights and down the days;
I fled Him, down the arches of the years;
I fled Him, down the labyrinthine ways
Of my own mind; and in the mist of tears
I hid from Him, and under running laughter.”
Like a hare, he runs from our Lord, but the hound of heaven still pursues him. It is a great poem about God’s unwavering pursuit of us. You can read it here:
