Psa. 73:16-18 “When I thought to know this, it was too painful for me; Until I went into the sanctuary of God; then understood I their end. Surely thou didst set them in slippery places: thou castedst them down into destruction.”
If you will read the whole Psalm 73, you will see that the Psalmist here is envious for the prosperity of the wicked people (v. 3). They prosper in material things. They have good health (v. 4). They have little problems; they are not even troubled by other men (v. 5). For people are afraid of their wickedness (v. 6). They can get all that their heart’s wishes (v. 7). Yet, they are corrupt and speaks against the heaven (v. 8-9).
The Psalmist are so envious of them because they have a good life here on Earth even though they are wicked. But the Psalmist’s view changed when God showed him about their end (v. 16-18). These people are standing on a slippery ground and only the goodness of God holds them from falling. Nothing else! And God could take His hand away anytime and let them go. The One Whom they mock is the only One who now holds them from slipping into a Christ-less eternity! That is the precarious position of the unbeliever!
