Gen. 1:27 “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.”
Do you know what it means that we are created in the image of God? What is the purpose of God why He created man according to His image? Or if put this way: If I would create something, for example a sculpture, what would be my purpose in creating that sculpture according to my image? There is only one prominent reason why I would create it according to my image, that is, I want people to be reminded of me through that sculpture. I want that sculpture to reflect me to people so that people will have an idea of me. I want it to display me.
God created man for the purpose of reflecting Him just like the moon that reflects the sun. Like the mirror, man is supposed to be 45 degrees with the clear reflective side pointing upward so that as God shone on it at the 45 degree angle, it would bounce off, and it would make a 90 degree turn and be reflected out into the world. And at the fall, Satan persuaded man that his own image is more beautiful than God’s image, and so man flip the mirror over. Now the black back side is toward God. It doesn’t reflect anything. Instead, the mirror casts a shadow in the shape of itself on the ground, and he fell in love with his own shadow. That is what happened. And we have been loving ourselves ever since instead of reflecting God.
