Phi. 3:13-14 “I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.”
Lately, I’ve watched a video on Facebook titled “Do not Celebrate Too Early.” It is a compilation of videos about how many athletes failed to get the first prize because they became complacent when they were almost at the finish line. All of them celebrated too early and became too confident that the athlete next to them grabbed the opportunity and snatched from them the first prize. You can only imagine how those athletes are blaming themselves after it. If only they did not become complacent.
In the verses above, the Apostle Paul was telling us: “I am not going to let it slip – I am not going to get complacent. I am going to carry on, press on right to the very goal. It’s not good enough that I just started well and I’m okay at the moment. I’m taking this the whole way. I need to finish well.”
Remember, our goal here is not to start well, but to finish well. Forget what was behind and press on to the ultimate goal. And you will end up with gold!
