Heb 12:2b “For the joy set before Him He endured the cross.”
What is the inward drive that makes our Lord Jesus endure the cross? Clue: It’s a three-letter word that starts with J and ends with Y and might have an O somewhere in the middle. JOY! You see? The Lord saw all those that would become new creations, spotless, adopted into His family and be indwelt by His spirit. So through the rejection, the spitting, the mocking, the pain and the stress of facing the cross, the truth is, there was joy in His heart.
It is an interesting thought that God would have such a great joy and desire to have us is it not? He Who has everything! But you know what, there is one thing that He doesn’t have – and that is YOU! That is me also. That’s us – His people. He only ever wants one thing – the hearts of His people. This is because according to Deu. 32:9 and Eph. 1:18:
“For the LORD’s portion is his people, Jacob his allotted inheritance.”
“I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints”
God has an inheritance and it is His people! We are His portion, we are His inheritance that He greatly desires. And this is the reason why the Lord Jesus has an overwhelming joy when He saw you while He is in the cross.
