John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that He gave us His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes on Him will not perish but have everlasting life.”
In my work, during our flight for project monitoring in Davao City, Philippines, my supervisor who is also a close friend of mine, happened to ask me a question that we would all want to ask: “Why do evil exists?” And I answered her “That’s because love exists too.” And I explained to her the following:
In the beginning, there is only God. And God has this attribute called “Love.” And this love cannot be called love unless it is given. So the Lord God needs to create so that He can give this love. But love can only function as love if the one who receives it has free-will. The receiver should have the ability to accept or reject it, that is the only way that it can be called love. If the receiver is programmed to only receive it and has no capacity to reject it, then it cannot be called love. And so by creating someone who has free-will in order to pour out His love, God is also risking rejection and rebellion against his love. And so Lucifer, the one-third of the angels and even man himself choose to reject this love. And this is why evil exists. The Lord knows this all and He sees it all even before He created everything. BUT LOVE IS SO GREAT that it is all worth risking everything. For He has also seen that there will be creations who would choose to accept this Love. And that is all that matters.
Evil is actually not the opposite of Love, it is the absence of it.
