Num. 20:12 “And the LORD said to Moses and Aaron, “Because you did not trust in me enough to honor me as holy in the sight of the Israelites, you will not bring this community into the land I give them.”
Here, lead the Israelites to the Promised land but he was not the one to lead them in. All because he struck the rock two times. The first time Moses was instructed to strike the rock. The second time he was told to speak only to the rock. The picture of the rock was Christ (1 Cor 10:4) Just as water came forth for the Israelites when the rock was struck, so the Holy Spirit came forth for believers after Jesus was struck and was crucified for us. That is the first picture and Moses got this one right.
But the second time is the picture of a risen Christ! He is alive and we only need to speak to Him, not strike Him again. But Moses, in anger, disobeyed God and struck the rock twice with his staff. He knew about Christ crucified but not the Christ! And unfortunately, this is where a lot of Christians also fall down. Let me be clear – this it is not a salvation issue. This is sanctification issue. It is a maturity issue. It is a victorious life issue. Moses missed the Promised Land because, in picture form, he didn’t rely on the risen Lord. And we don’t want to miss the rest in the our heavenly Promised Land in the rapture
