2 Kings 2:9 “When they had crossed, Elijah said to Elisha, ‘ Tell me, what can I do for you before I am taken from you?’ ‘Let me inherit a double portion of your spirit.”
The Prophet Elijah didn’t have anything to give as an inheritance. Nor was he materially wealthy. But he was spiritually wealthy and that is what Elisha considered important. Elisha wasn’t after riches or possessions or fame. But he wanted to inherit what the prophet Elijah have spiritually. He wanted to receive the same Holy Spirit that empowered Elijah to carry on his work amongst the nation of Israel.
More than material prosperity, Elisha saw his great need for spiritual riches. And this is what made him to be a successor of Elijah. You know, there are many sons of prophets in Israel during the time of the prophet Elijah. They could be a successor of him. But the Lord went to choose an uneducated plowman, Elisha, who longed for spiritual richness rather than material ones! Now, ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS remember this: God isn’t after our education, qualification, or sophistication. The only B.A initials that you need in order to be used by the Lord after your name is one – “Born again”.
