Isaiah 55:6-9
“6 Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near:
7 Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.
8 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD.
9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.”
As we enter a new year, it’s important to reflect on the spiritual journey we have walked, and even more importantly, where God is leading us. Isaiah 55:6 says, “Seek the Lord while He may be found; call on Him while He is near.” This scripture is a call to action—a reminder that there is a specific time to seek the Lord, and that time is now. The invitation to pursue Him is open, but it will not remain open forever. There is an urgency to this command, and we must not delay.
Reflecting on Last Year
Looking back on last year, it’s clear that the Lord has been gracious. He has set many of us free from spiritual bondage and filled our lives with abundance. For many, God’s revelations have been plentiful. He has opened doors, provided breakthroughs, and showered us with His grace. And yet, there is a promise: “He will give more this year.” But in order to receive this “more,” we need to pursue Him intentionally, wholeheartedly, and urgently. The time to seek the Lord is now.
The Urgency of Seeking the Lord
In Amos 8:11-12, the prophet warns of a time when the Lord will no longer be easily found:
“The days are coming… when I will send a famine through the land—not a famine of food or a thirst for water, but a famine of hearing the words of the Lord. People will stagger from sea to sea and wander from north to east, searching for the word of the Lord, but they will not find it.”
This is a stark reminder that the time to seek God is finite. His revelations, which are so available to us today, will not always be within reach.
It’s a common excuse to say, “I’ll seek the Lord later,” or “I’ll get serious about my faith when I have more time, when my career is stable, or when I’ve achieved my dreams.” But the reality is, you may never have more time than you do now. Delaying your pursuit of God because of worldly concerns is dangerous. As we make plans for our future—whether it’s building a career, achieving financial success, or pursuing personal dreams—we must prioritize seeking God above all else.
Seek Him in Every Situation
This year, we are called to seek the Lord in every aspect of our lives:
1. If you want to be born again – Now is the time to seek the Lord and receive the new life He offers.
2. If you have doubts or problems – Now is the time to seek Him for clarity, peace, and strength.
3. If you have dreams or plans – Now is the time to align your goals with His will and purpose for your life.
4. If you are facing sickness, financial difficulties, or relationship issues – Now is the time to call on the Lord for healing, provision, and restoration.
5. If you have no pressing needs but simply desire to know Him more deeply – Now is the time to pursue a closer relationship with the Lord.
In all these situations, the answer is clear: seek the Lord.
“ Seek the LORD while he may be found; call on him while he is near.” (Isaiah 55:6).
Pursue God, Not Material Things
In Revelation 3:17, we are warned about the spiritual state of those who pursue material wealth while neglecting their spiritual health: “You say, ‘I am rich; I have acquired wealth and do not need a thing.’ But you do not realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind, and naked.” Pursuing material wealth and success at the expense of your spiritual well-being is a trap that many fall into, especially in today’s generation.
In Luke 13:22-30, the Lord Jesus speaks about the narrow door, saying: “Make every effort to enter through the narrow door, because many, I tell you, will try to enter and will not be able to.” We are now in a time where the door is open, but it will not remain open forever. The wedding feast has been prepared, and the invitation is extended to all, but there will come a day when the door will close. Those who have delayed or neglected their pursuit of God will find themselves on the outside, unable to enter.
The Narrow Door and the Call to Persevere
The narrow door represents the Lord Jesus Christ Himself. There is only one way to enter the Kingdom of Heaven, and that is through Him. But we must be diligent in our pursuit. If you stop seeking the Lord—if you stop attending fellowships, stop praying, or stop studying His Word—you are not standing still. You are, in fact, moving backward. The pull of the world is strong, and if you are not actively swimming against the current, it will drag you away from God. As believers, we are like living fish swimming upstream. Dead fish go with the flow, but the living ones resist the current of this world.
Paul warns in 2 Thessalonians 2:9-12 that those who do not love the truth will be deceived and will perish: “They perish because they refused to love the truth and so be saved.” This is a powerful warning for those who neglect seeking the Lord, allowing themselves to be distracted by miracles or worldly pursuits rather than pursuing the truth.
The Promise of Pardon
Isaiah 55:7 reminds us why we should seek the Lord: “Let the wicked forsake their ways and the unrighteous their thoughts. Let them turn to the Lord, and he will have mercy on them, and to our God, for he will freely pardon.” God is not calling us to seek Him out of fear, but out of love and mercy. He is a God who forgives, who pardons freely and completely.
Isaiah 55:1-3 is an invitation: “Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come, buy and eat!” God invites us to come to Him, to seek Him without cost, because everything we need is found in Him. He says, “Come, listen to me… and I will make an everlasting covenant with you.” This is an invitation to experience His grace and to know Him more deeply.
The Call to Know Him
The more you know someone, the more you love him/her. This principle holds true in our relationship with God. The more you seek Him, the more you will come to know His heart, His character, and His love for you. And as your knowledge of Him grows, so too will your love for Him. Just as you cannot claim to love someone if you never spend time with them or get to know them, so too you cannot truly love God if you are not seeking Him daily.
This year, make it your priority to seek the Lord. Whether you are seeking answers, healing, provision, or simply a deeper relationship with Him, pursue Him with all your heart. The time is now—do not delay. “Seek the LORD while he may be found; call on him while he is near.” (Isaiah 55:6).
