Gen. 14:21 “The king of Sodom said to Abram, “Give me the people and keep the goods for yourself.”
The King of Sodom here represents Satan. Given how Sodom is portrayed in the Bible, it would be fair to say that this king is not the godliest of men. This king has an offer and a temptation for Abram – you can keep all the goods, just return to me the people.
This is just like Satan saying “You can have all the riches and success of this world that you want – I’m just after the souls of the people.” This is also his temptation for us today. Satan can offer you all the material riches of this world. He has no concern for those material things which will not last. His concerns are the souls of the people. If you are a child of God, you need to be careful what you choose.
