Proverbs 23:4-5 “Do not weary yourself to gain wealth, cease from your consideration of it. When you set your eyes on it, it is gone. For wealth certainly makes itself wings Like an eagle that flies toward the heavens.”
To think that these verses are written by king Solomon, the wealthiest man that had ever lived, is enough reason why we should follow this advice. We should not go after financial or material wealth. Once I have taken a risk with my money. A Christian friend came to me and told me about an investment. You know, one of those ‘too good to be true’ investments. I invested quite a bit of money. Well, you know how this is going to end. Not well. I lost all that money. But I carried on. So…. Life lesson number 1: God isn’t so interested in the money. Life lesson number 2: He does want us interested in the One Who is enough for us and the One Who will never leave us – Our Lord Jesus.
For us who are the inheritors of heaven and earth, we must cease ourselves in going after material wealth. They are not for us. The good thing is, when you put our Lord first, He looks after His own. Contentment in whatever situation you find yourself is the key! (Matthew 6:25-33, Philippians 4:12-13, Hebrews 13:5, Luke 12:15, Psalm 37:3-4, 1 Timothy 6:10-11).
