Job 11:5 “But would that God might speak, and open His lips against you”
The verse above was spoken by Zophar, the youngest among the three friends of Job. He wishes that God would speak so that He may give Job a blast or two! But, because God remains silent, he decides to speak for God and give Job a good old tongue lashing himself! Zophar sees Job as a talkative proud mocker who sees himself as totally innocent and with pure God-given wisdom! And Zophar doesn’t like it. So, he wishes God would speak against Job.
But, does God really not speak to us? You might not hear an audible voice from Him but He certainly does speak to us. Aside from the Bible, He speaks to us through our circumstances. Often, in situations like Job, that God WANTS to use for His purpose and so that He can speak to us. As C.S. Lewis wrote in “The Problem of Pain”:
”God whispers to us in our pleasures, speaks in our conscience, but shouts in our pains: it is his megaphone to rouse a deaf world.”
