Wrong Diagnosis

Job 13:4 “You, however, smear me with lies; you are worthless physicians, all of you!”

Have you ever gone to the doctor for a certain sickness but were given a wrong diagnosis? I had. And a remedy based on a wrong diagnosis can often be fatal! During my college days, I only depended on my scholarship stipend for my tuition and allowance. Often, the release of our allowance is delayed. So I have to rely on borrowing money from my friends and if I can’t borrow, I go to our university on an empty stomach. This happened several times that an acid reflux was developed which also leads to heartburn. The first doctor that I consulted diagnosed me with stomach ulcer and had given me medication for it. But the heartburn did not go away. I decided to go for another doctor and sure enough, she knew what was wrong and advised me not to skip meals. She had also given me a recommendation whom to go whenever I have no money to buy my food. And by not skipping meals, the heartburn was gone.

This is the same in the verse above where Job’s friends are giving him wrong diagnosis about his suffering. They are insisting that Job committed some sins. They had the diagnosis completely wrong and Job knew it, that’s why Job called them worthless physicians! We need not be careful of wrong diagnoses for our spiritual health. This is what is happening in the church today being diagnosed by false ministers.
