Lev. 24:5-6 “And thou shalt take fine flour, and bake twelve cakes thereof: two tenth deals shall be in one cake. And thou shalt set them in two rows, six on a row, upon the pure table before the LORD.
As you move into the Holy Place the first article that you see is the Table of Showbread. This table had twelve loaves of bread on it, each representing one of the twelve tribes of Israel. Lev 24:5-9 tells us that the showbread was made of fine flour and set on the table, sprinkled lightly with frankincense.
There is a little bit more to this baking of this showbread. As noted above God’s instructions were for it to be made from fine flour. The fine flour was made through a grinding and crushing process and speaks to us of the suffering that Jesus endured for us. This bread was also unleavened. As leaven speaks of sin, this was a reminder to us that ‘In Him is no sin’ (1 John 3:5).
