1 Thes. 5:18 “In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.”
When I was just a kid, I read a story of a man who found a barn where Satan stores all kinds of seeds. Those seeds are sown by Satan in the human heart. They are the seeds of envy, greed, anger, hatred, lust, and so on. But then the man noticed that Satan had more seeds of discouragement than any other kind of seeds. He asked Satan why he has more of those and Satan told him it’s because those seeds could be made to grow almost anywhere. “Almost everywhere?” asked the man. Then Satan reluctantly admitted that because there is one place where he could not get them to grow. “And where is that?” asked the man. Satan replied sadly, “In the heart of a thankful man.”
I can’t forget this story because it conveys a powerful lesson about being thankful. You know, a person can only be thankful if he/she is contented. And in terms of material things, no one can be contented in this world. Anyone who go for material riches will fall into the bottomless pit of uncontentment. And with uncontentment comes discouragement. Only a thankful person is a contended person. And therefore, the seed of discouragement cannot grow on him/her.
