Col 2:16-17 “Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day. These are a shadow of the things that were to come; the reality, however, is found in Christ.”
The reason why most religions today hate the Apostle Paul is because of the verses above. Religions today place men under bondage to what they should not eat, not to drink, and that they should celebrate religious festivals and the Sabbath day like the Seventh Day Adventist. But Paul told us that these are just shadows of the reality. They are not the reality. The reality is Christ. That is why you must not let anyone judge you by what you eat, drink, or whether you keep the Sabbath or not. As followers of the Lord Jesus, we are not under these ordinances. We have been freed from them. We should be now found in Christ.
These all are what I call “Legalism” and its trusty sidekick, “Ritualism”. Legalism is using human effort to fulfill man-made or God-given laws as a basis for your salvation or spiritual standing before God. Essentially this is Jesus plus add-ons that you have to continue to do. Its sidekick is always ritualism because the extra add-ons that are commanded to maintain your salvation or spiritual standing eventually just become empty rituals. Beware of them. Do not put yourselves bound by them again. As Galatians 5:1 told us:
“Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.”
