Mat 26:29 “But I say to you, I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you in My Father’s kingdom.”
In the Jewish wedding ceremony, the couple’s act of drinking wine in the same cup happens twice – first during the Betrothal ceremony which happens in the home of the Bride and second during the Marriage ceremony which happens in the home of the Groom. After the betrothal, the couple is already married but the Groom will return first to his home and prepare a place for his Wife and will return later to take His Wife home when everything is ready for their Marriage ceremony.
During the last supper, what the Lord Jesus is telling His disciples here in Matthew 26:29 about their next drinking of wine is actually a prophetic utterance that will happen in heaven, the home of the Groom. It points out to the Marriage ceremony in heaven when the Groom and His wife will drink wine again. So in the last supper, the act when the Lord takes the cup and drank from it and all the disciples drank from it also, is actually an act of Betrothal ceremony. Before He (the Bridegroom) left to go to His Father’s house, He will make sure first that He had already betrothed (wedded) to His Bride.
The communion ceremony is not just any ceremony, it is actually a wedding ceremony.
