Col 4:2 “Devote yourselves to prayer, keeping alert in it with an attitude of thanksgiving.”
To “devote yourselves to prayer” means to persevere on it. That is to pray whatever the circumstances are. To tell the Lord about whatever has been laid upon our hearts. Persevering prayer is better illustrated in cutting stones:
Imagine a stone cutter diligently striking a rock a hundred times, with no visible crack appearing. Yet, on the 101st blow, the rock splits in two. It’s clear that it wasn’t that single blow responsible for the breakthrough, but rather the cumulative effect of all the preceding strikes.
This analogy serves as a powerful reminder. Is there something or someone you’ve been consistently lifting up in prayer before God? Sometimes, we pray for extended periods without any apparent progress, just like the unyielding rock. But then, almost suddenly, the hardened heart gives way. It may seem like a sudden change, but in reality, it’s the result of the 101st blow delivered through persistent prayer.”
