Ruth 3:7 “And when Boaz had eaten and drunk, and his heart was merry, he went to lie down at the end of the heap of corn: and she came softly, and uncovered his feet, and laid her down.”
Ruth followed Naomi’s advice and went down to the threshing floor where Boaz was sleeping. The first thing that I want you to notice is that the threshing floor, which is the place of trial that refines our faith, is down! It’s a place where, as John the Baptist testified, “I must decrease and He must increase”. It’s easy to just say this but in reality, this place is not easy. Going to this place means acknowledging to the Lord that you have been a failure as a Christian, a failure as a husband, or a failure as a mother. It always starts by laying yourself down in humility at His feet before He can lift you up.
The Second thing that I want you to notice is, why is Boaz sleeping down there? He is the owner of the field, couldn’t he have been sleeping in some nice flowery bed and have Ruth meet him there? Likewise, why did our Lord Jesus who is God, left heaven and took upon Himself the form of a servant (Phil. 2:6-8)? He was even in a place where he was willing to lay down his life and take the consequences of our sins! This is where He said we had to be as well: “If anyone serves me, he must follow me; and where I am my servant will be also (John 12:26).” To receive rewards and blessings from our Lord, we need to be in a lowly place just like where He is.
